A Squad of only 12 today due to injuries plus at least 2 of that 12 that turned up far from being at full fitness but willing to dig deep and play for the jersey. In a first 30 minutes where Stranraer saw more of the ball but failed to make the most of the chances created. They somehow found themselves 2 goals behind. Ayr converted a penalty and then took advantage of some ball watching by the Stranraer boys to tap in a rebound after a great stop by the keeper. At the start of the second 30 minutes it was clear that the Stranraer side were determined to continue to take the game to Ayr despite the set backs. Playing some of their best football again they eventually got the goal they deserved and soon followed it up with an equaliser.
The team continued to play some great football and fight hard for every ball not giving the Ayr side a minute to settle much to the obvious frustration of some of the Ayr players. Ayr did however get the next goal right on the whistle from a bit of a goal mouth scramble from a corner Stranraer had failed to clear. This was against the run of play but Ayr always looked strong from set-plays with Stranraer at times struggling to cope against some of the more stronger players in the Ayr side. Stranraer then lost a quick goal pretty much straight from the kick-off in the final period which seemed to knock a bit of the fight out of the team as the legs tired and Ayr, making 5 changes to freshen their team up started having a lot more of the ball. Ayr did manage to score a couple more goals during this time which was harsh on the Stranraer boys who had gave all today and had came very close to upsetting the form guide, giving a performance for the majority of the game which they can be very proud of. It was another huge step forward for this team that only a season ago were losing 14-0 out at the Academy against the same Ayr side. The under 15 squad has many boys who are under 14 and even one today who is under 13, so this makes the all round performance today an even greater achievment. I hope the parents were as proud of them today as all the coaching staff were. Team today: 1) Wayne Doyle, 2)Michael Baxter, 3)Lewis McIntyre, 4) Scott Phillips, 5) Josh McDivitt, 6)Jarvis Conlay, 7) Bobbie Lammie, 8) Lewis McColm, 9) Liam Binnie, 10) Scott Mann, 11) Dean Agnew, Sub: 12) Finlay Wilson
