42 Airdrieonians WBLUES boss Stevie Farrell is facing a reshuffle ahead of tomorrow's clash with Airdrieonians.

Steven Bell will miss out after injuring his ankle against Albion Rovers and defensive midfield colleague Ryan Thomson is suspended for the Diamonds' visit.

Willie Gibson has also shaken off a bout of tonsillitis and it could mean a chance for other players to come in.

Farrell said they had taken time in training to look at the various possibilities of who could fill in for the unavailable duo.

He added: "We have not got any what we would call natural cover who can play there.

"We are not wanting to change the shape either because the players are used to the shape.

"We will have people going into that area and they are going to have to perform and take that opportunity.

"It's an opportunity for two other players to come into the side and, hopefully, they do themselves and the team justice."

32 year old Bell took part in light training this week but it remains unclear how long he will be missing for.

Farrell was hopeful the club captain would be back before the end of the season but there could be just three games after tomorrow's clash, which does not leave him with much time.

Stranraer come into the game looking to bounce back after the disappointing defeat at Albion Rovers last Saturday.

Three points could edge Stranraer closer to safety but the Diamonds also have plenty to play for as they look to strengthen their grip on a place in the promotion play-offs.

The manager did not try to sugarcoat the performance or the result last time out.

He said: "We were never at it and didn't deserve anything from the game.

"For the first ten minutes, we did alright in the game and there was not much between the teams.

"Losing Steven Bell, your captain and your leader, is a blow but that is no excuse.

"For the next 80 minutes, they were better than us and thoroughly deserved the victory.

"Since I came in, in terms of performance every one has been really competitive but Saturday was not like us and we were never at or in the game."

TEN-MAN Stranraer picked up a vital three points at the Excelsior Stadium to make it six games undefeated under Stevie Farrell.

The manager named an unchanged side from that who picked up three points with victory over Brechin City at Stair Park. Stranraer were probably second best in the first half but got their noses in front soon after the restart. Liam Dick's cross was inch perfect for Craig Malcolm and the striker nodded the ball over the helpless Rohan Ferguson.

However, seconds after the visiting fans had retaken their seats, the game seemed to swing in the home side's favour. Morgyn Neill was shown a straight red card for bringing down Jack McKay. The tackle seemed outside the box but Cameron Belford was the hero as he denied Iain Russell from the penalty spot.

If that was a boost for the Blues, Ryan Thomson had them on cloud nine moments later when Ferguson failed to hold on to Willie Gibson's free-kick and Thomson fired home. Airdrie pushed to get back into things but Andy Ryan's stoppage time free-kick proved too little too late.

- 1-2 (Ryan; Malcolm and Thomson) at Excelsior Stadium on 4/3/17

Referee

Gavin Duncan has taken charge of just one Stranraer game this season and that came at the beginning of February.

Stranraer picked up three points with victory over Albion Rovers in Stevie Farrell's first home game in charge. Craig Malcolm scored midway through the first half and doubled his tally with 11 minutes to. Club captain Steven Bell added a third with two minutes to go to wrap up the win.

The Diamonds have had 3 games with Mr Duncan in charge. The first saw them win 2-1 over Stenhousemuir in July before Brechin won 3-2 in September. The last tie was a derby, with the Diamonds coming out on top in Coatbridge, with Andy Ryan and Iain Russell hitting the back of the net.
