Brechin 20161217 007Scorers: Love (15), McLennan (38)

STRANRAER were undone by two first half goals, as Brechin City picked up their 1st win in 5 games.

And to compound the Blues' frustration, captain Steven Bell was dismissed late on for a second booking.

The travelling support could be forgiven for wishing that the pitch hadn't passed its 10.30am inspection, as Stranraer struggled on an abysmal playing surface at Glebe Park.

Luke Watt had a low drive saved early on, before Bell's goalbound header was well cleared.

Where Stranraer huffed and puffed with no end product, Brechin were direct and clinical.

Ally Love's swerving strike found its way into the back of the net to put the hosts in front, despite Cameron Belford getting his hand to it.

Brechin keeper Graeme Smith would have to be subbed off due to injury, replaced by Paddy O'Neil, but his side didn't miss a beat.

They soon doubled their advantage. On-loan Aberdeen forward Connor McLennan used his pace to beat the Blues defensive line and rifled a low shot into the bottom left hand corner.

Alan Trouten had a great chance to create a third when he burst into space down the wing, but his final ball for Ally Love was lacking.

Brechin 20161217 005Cat-like reflexes from Belford kept the scoreline down to 2 thereafter, but Stranraer's miserable day was complete as Bell was sent off for a second bookable defence in the 69th minute.
