Q. Are you pleased with how pre-season has gone?

A. "I think the boys have worked really hard and done well in the games although, as I've said before, the results in these matches are irrelevant; they have been about getting the players up to speed. We won't read too much into those games and we're all looking forward to the competitive stuff starting now."

Q. Is there anything in particular you have been happy with so far?

A. "The attitude of the boys has been great. I know a few of them from previous experience and that there is a great team spirit. They have looked after themselves and returned to work in good condition which is excellent from a fitness point of view."

Q. And is there room for improvement in a number of areas?

A. "I'm still looking for two players. We had a couple of trialists in, who we won't be moving on, so we're a wee bit short. I want to add to the squad and we should be able to do that over the coming weeks."
Q. You've made several signings since being appointed. What will these players bring to the squad?

A. Conor Brennan (Goalkeeper). "He a relatively young lad and has a bit more experience having played a few first-team games at Kilmarnock in the Premier League. He's a Northern Ireland under-21s international and comes highly recommended. We have high hopes for him and he has been a good lad to have around the place. He has fitted in very quickly."

Max Currie (Goalkeeper). "He is a younger lad, has been on the books at Motherwell and we're looking really at the potential of him developing into a keeper. But we expect him and Conor to battle away. They can help each other."

Dale Keenan (Defender). "He is a left centre-back and also a left-back. He has been out on loan and also played a few first-team games at Partick Thistle. He is a good age for us and fitted in well."

Paul Cairney (Midfielder). "I tried to sign him a few years ago when I was manager at Ayr United. I've known him for a number of years. He's got great Premier League experience and is still a relatively young age. He has great ability. He's a bit eccentric in some ways but is a good lad. He should be playing at a higher level and hopefully we will see the best of him by working with him."

Q. You have made Steven Bell your captain. What qualities does he have that makes him the man for the job?

A. "He has been about the block, has good experience and played at a high level. He's a leader both on and off the park which made it an easy enough decision for me. I know he will be a big help and the players respect him which is a big thing. He's an important member of our squad."
