Danny Mitchell

danmitchell1112smallDanny-MitchellThe club and supporters were disappointed to learn last week the local lad and club captain had decided to leave the club.

In recent weeks Danny felt that the travelling involved in playing for and training with the club had become too much of a bind and chore and he was no longer gaining enough enjoyment from his time at Stair Park and he approached the club the week before last, asking to be allowed to leave.

dannymitchell0910smalldanmitchell1011smallThe club and the management made every effort to persuade him to reconsider and some alternative solutions were discussed but ultimately the decision for Danny to leave the club was agreed as the way forward for all parties and his contract has been terminated and registration cancelled allowing him to be freed.Danny joined Stranraer in January 2007 after returning to Wigtownshire following his stay down south with Northampton Town and made his debut 5 days later when Gerry Britton brought him off the bench at Stair Park against Raith Rovers. Danny would go on to make 168 appearances for the Blues during which time he scored 16 goals.

dannymitchell0708dmitchell0809smallHe was given the honour a couple of seasons ago of wearing the captains armband and follows in the recent footsteps of Allan Jenkins and the not so recent ones of Keith Knox in having the honour of captaining his home town team.

Everyone at Stair Park would like to thank Danny for all his efforts during his stay of just short of 5 years in which he became the longest serving player at the club and we would like to extend our best wishes for the future.
