jlongworth1516smallStranraer consolidated their position in 5th place in League one with a 1-1 draw at Station Park yesterday. The Blues infact might feel disappointed they didnt come away from Angus with all 3 points as they dominated for long spells and created several good chances. Jamie Longworth scored in the 35th minute to give Stranraer a first half lead however Forfar fought back with Andy Ryan equalising in the 54th minute. The Blues had a nervy end to the match when Scott Rumsby got a straight red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

sfcvpeterh160116LADBROKES LEAGUE ONE: STRANRAER v PETERHEAD
(Saturday, January 16: Stair Park, 3pm)

Both teams will travel long and winding roads with the prospect of picking up precious points making their journey all worthwhile.

Jim McInally's Peterhead, occupying third place in the Ladbrokes League One table, will provide formidable opposition on Saturday for Stranraer who return to the bread-and-butter after last weekend's Knickerbocker Glory.

Lights, Camera, Action...the Blues were stars of the small screen as they faced Celtic in the fourth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup. Keeper Max Currie shone brightest but, inspired by Leigh Griffiths, the Glasgow giants emerged 3-0 winners at Stair Park.

Richer for the experience, in football and financial terms, the club will now aim to build on a fruitful festive period which generated six points from two games.

A 5-1 spanking of Stenhousemuir was followed up with a one-goal triumph at home to derby rivals Ayr United whose automatic promotion challenge has been derailed somewhat in the last few weeks.

Stranraer, though, will be looking at the second half of the campaign with a renewed sense of optimism and purpose. The team may be in eighth place, just two points above the relegation spots, but the gap of eight to the promotion play-off zone is not insurmountable when you consider the competitiveness of this division.

Consistency will be key as it ever is. It says it all that, if the Blues avoid defeat to Peterhead, they will make it three games without loss which will be their longest unbeaten run of the season to date.

The Blue Toon are, in some ways, their model to follow. Unbeaten in the league in eight, they have won five of their last six matches; hence their rise up the standings.

On the personnel front, Currie is expected to retain his place between the sticks as David McGurn recovers from a broken toe. New signing, wing wizard Willie Gibson, is pushing for a starting slot.

Peterhead have a fully-fit squad to choose from with ex-Blues defender Steven Noble back from a ban and striker Leighton McIntosh returning from injury.
