Brechin 20161217 002"YOU need to beat the teams round about you - it's that simple."

Scott Agnew's message is a clear one ahead of Stenhousemuir's visit to Stair Park this weekend.

Time is fast running out for both teams to secure their future in Scottish League One.

Three points for either team will not mathematically see them safe or relegated but victory would be a step in the right direction.

Agnew, in his second spell at the club, said: "Stenhousemuir are close to us.

"They are not that far behind and we need to try to get away from there."

The two sides have met three times this season, with the Blues having won two of the three encounters.

Victory for the Warriors the last time out turned out to be Brian Reid's last game in the Stair Park hotseat.

Agnew told the official website " a lot had changed" in the ten weeks since the 1-0 defeat at Ochilview.

He said: "Training is a lot better.
"I think Stevie Farrell has brought a positive attitude to training and it is rubbing off on the boys.

"Everybody is working really hard."

The two teams come into the game on different runs of form.

Stranraer have tasted defeat just once since the end of January while Brown Ferguson's men have lost five games in the same time period.

Last time out, the Blues came within a matter of seconds of picking up three points at Peterhead.
Jamie Redman's late header ensured it was just one point instead of three.

Agnew said: "It has got to feel like two points dropped.

"In the first half, we lost the early goal and probably the rest of the half we dominated.

"We could have been a couple of goals up at half time but 2-1 is a dodgy scoreline.

"To be fair, they came back into it but I thought we defended well and they threw a lot at us with high balls and long balls."

Understandably, the team was left disappointed in the changing room after the full-time whistle.

However, Agnew is backing his team-mates to make things right this weekend.

He said: "It's different now.

"Early in the season, once we lost the early goal we probably would lose the game."
